We are excited to welcome Roy Sovis as the new Assistant Principal at Clio Elementary School! Roy is thrilled to serve Clio Schools in this new role and looks forward to learning and growing alongside our CES staff—many of whom he already knows through his work with the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD).
Originally from Swartz Creek, Roy knew he wanted to become an educator while he was still in high school. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan–Flint and began his career as a Social Studies teacher at Grand Blanc Middle School. His professional journey includes earning a Master’s Degree from Michigan State University in Instructional Design and Educational Technology, followed by a second Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix.
Roy spent 22 years at GISD serving districts across Genesee County as the Coordinator for Instruction – Social Studies. In 2021, he became the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Michigan International Prep School (MIPS), also serving as K–12 Principal during his first two years. After retiring from MIPS in June 2025, Roy quickly realized how much he missed education—and by December, he was excited to return to the field and join the Clio community.
Roy and his wife, Pam, have been married for many years and are proud parents of three grown sons, two daughters-in-law, and three grandchildren (with another on the way!). They enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends, and are active members of Faith Church in Linden.
Welcome to the team Roy! #ThePlaceToBe
